So many of us want six pack abs of the cover model stars but most of us have fallen into what I call the ‘crunch trap’. Doing only isolated exercises, like the crunch, have in the past been shown to give you a six pack, however, I will ask the question – what do you define as abs?

Let’s be honest, there are plenty of men out there with a ‘six pack’ but to be fair, it’s like looking at a crumpled piece of paper, they are lucky to have a low body fat count but their trouble is there is no muscle to back up the look. If you’re dropping down to about 8% and even lower body fat then you’re going to get a six pack.

Nonetheless, if you are like me and you don’t want to look like a rag doll then you are going to have to take your abs seriously. I am a bit of a gym monkey now and to be honest I’ve made the typical mistake most of us men do. I’ve bench pressed my way to a great chest and biceps (the beach muscles) but my abdominals have not had a look in. Because I want six pack abs badly, it is time for change.

First of all we should briefly analyze fat loss to get us down to the sweet spot of around 10% and lower: the six pack area. Yes I know I said skinny guys aren’t what it’s all about but unfortunately we are going to have to get off our backsides and maybe even jog! Even so, it’s worth mentioning that doing Cardio exercises only doesn’t help to get rid of body fat. There is nutrition to think about, but perhaps more pleasingly, gym time is in order. So cardio needs to be regular and structured, but we aren’t looking for a marathon here.

Fat loss is built around intense sessions, preferably sprint circuits. Those rocky montages of running up steps should be your motivation as you stick to sessions of about 30 minutes in length. One should really focus on highly variable intensity training as this is the most effective way of raising your heart beat and challenging your body; keeping it guessing what’s coming next. A mixture between sprinting and jogging, perhaps around a field or if you’re really game then up a hill, will really get the blood pumping.

Right, if you’re still with me then you must be serious so let’s look at what sort of exercises we should be trying to incorporate into our gym routine. As mentioned earlier, the isolated exercises such as crunches have become a bit of a relic, so we should take a peek at what gives our seasoned professionals at the top their cutting edge physique. Many people will talk to you about how the core works but they really won’t have a clue about what they’re talking about and you know what, I’m not going to pretend I do either. But, there are people who realy know what to do, and they shared their knowledge and experience with us.

So many years I wasted my time. Finaly, in my forties I found the advice which helped me to start to lose fat. I started with 31% of body fat. Several months after, I reduced my body fat under 15%!
